Members should have now received a report on WICEN's involvement in the annual Cave Rescue exercise held at Jenolan in early November.

Your publicity officer has noticed a possibly interesting programme from ABC's Catalyst team, "Don't Panic: Surviving Extremes" on ABC1 tonight, Sunday, at 7:30pm. For late adopters of digital TV, this is logical channel 2 or 21. The bushfires aspect was filmed in nearby Hornsby Heights.

On the 9th of November WICEN supported the annual Cave Rescue exercise held at Jenolan. Participants included teams from VRA squads Cave Rescue, BWRS, and WICEN, along with Ambulance Special Operations and the Police Rescue Squad, plus some Jenolan guides. Jenolan is a far more extensive system than the typical tourist will see. This exercise took place within the Mammoth Cave complex, north of the Grand Arch, which contains 11 km of the 40 km of mapped passages and caves in the area, and involved extracting a simulated victim from deep within the system on a stretcher.

This weekend WICEN is supporting Project Wittenoom, evidently randomly named, with nothing to do with asbestos mining. This is the large scale, multi-agency search for missing Cessna VH-MDX in the Barrington Tops.

WICEN has received an invitation from its sister sister squad, Cave Rescue, to have a small team participate in their multi agency exercise being held on November 9 & 10 in the Jenolan Caves area. WICEN's involvement would not include entering the cave, only the provision of some surface communications.

WICEN has received an invitation from our VRA sister squad, Cave Rescue, to have a small team participate in their multi agency exercise being held on November 9 & 10 in the Jenolan Caves area. WICEN's involvement would not include entering the cave, only the provision of some surface communications. Of course, this is a valuable opportunity to witness the work of other VRA squads. Please contact Wicen if you are interested in participating.
