NSW Police Search and Rescue in Sydney are looking at all of the details of the original search for the Cessna 210 VH-MDX which was lost in the Barrington Tops in 1981, to assist in planning for this year's SAREX in October. Their records note that WICEN was involved in original search. If any listeners have knowledge of any WICEN members involved back then, please contact WICEN.

Members who have provided their details in order to obtain a VRA ID should have received an email recently regarding training. This is important for those wishing to be available for activation.

WICEN has now been provided with the location for the 2013 Navigation Shield conducted annually by the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad. This year's event will be held on 6th & 7th July. It is within 3 hours from Sydney and WICEN are again looking for members to work at Base, up to 3 Radio Checkpoints, and a Repeater Site. Although this event is mainly staffed by members from around Sydney, other members from outside of Sydney are especially welcome.

WICEN's Monday night HF net is now once per month. This will be the second Monday of each month at 8:00 pm. The group has started a 2m digital net via the Chatswood repeater at 7:30 pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Initially they will be using MT63-2k-long, available in the Fldigi [F L digi] suite of software. It can be downloaded from: www.w1hkj.com

The correct dates for the upcoming Memory Walk & Jog events are as follows: The Hunter event will be at Speers Point Park on September 8th and the Illawarra one will be at Stuart park on October 13. The event site is: www.memorywalk.com.au

WICEN ACT, part of the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club have manny events planned for October. An example is the Brookvale Horse Endurance Ride over the Labour Day Weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th of October. Further events can be found at: www.crarc.ampr.org
