WICEN was recently involved in the search for Gary Tweddle in and around Leura in the upper Blue Mountains. His body has been located and recovered from a very difficult location on a cliff in the area, and formally identified.

Steven Heimann attended a multi-agency debrief at Katoomba on Thursday, along with representatives from Police, SES, RFS, and the VRA. Superintendent Jobson asked those present to pass on to the volunteers thanks from the police for the huge effort put in. He emphasised that although the search was not successful all involved should be proud of the work done.

A report, published prior to this development, appears on pages 21 to 25 of September's "Amateur Radio".

The Annual General Meeting of WICEN NSW Incorporated will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday 14th of September at Amateur Radio New South Wales, 63 Quarry Road, Dural.

This year's Trek for Timor will be in and around the Kangaroo Valley and Fitzroy Falls on Saturday the 21st of September. Funds raised will allow solar powered lights to be installed in 1024 homes in the Remexio district. These will replace kerosene lamps which are both expensive to run, and generate harmful particulates. The new lamps will allow children to study at night. The project will train over 30 local young people in installing and maintaining the systems. There are 11 and 50km options. More can be read at: http://www.kvrp.org.au/

The Illawarra Memory Walk and Jog is on Sunday, October 13, at Stuart Park, North Wollongong. Alzheimer's Australia NSW describe these as their flagship fundraising events.

The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic is scheduled for 26th and 27th of October. Due to the number of checkpoints along the river, stations on vessels, command points, and other stations, WICEN needs to field a large number of volunteers. If you wish to assist, even if you are not a member, please contact WICEN via its website. Those who have not taken part before will be teamed with an experienced operator. Members can reply to the email from the event Event Commander, Neil Fallshaw, VK2XNF.
