Following new information that had come to hand to NSW Police, last
week end WICEN was activated by Police Rescue to support a search in
the Barrington Tops Wilderness Area for VH-MDX, the Cessna aircraft
that went missing over 32 years ago. WICEN supplied VHF radios,
manned a radio point at Carey's Peak and managed the SITuation REPorts
from the Police and BWRS search team. Additionally, APRS trackers
were successfully used to track the progress of the search team.
Unfortunately the missing aircraft was not found. It was however an
excellent exercise in being able to put together a small competent two
person WICEN team at short notice and operate in sub zero
temperatures, above the snow-line on an extremely exposed and
difficult to access location.

WICEN will be once again providing communications for the world famous
Shahazda Horse Enduro held around St Albans, on the MacDonald River,
to the north west of Sydney, from Monday 25th to Saturday 30th August.

August, September and October sees Alzheimer's Australia Memory Walk
and Jog events in Port Macquarie, the Hunter, over the Bay Run in
Inner Western Sydney and at North Wollongong. These are fairly short
events, which would make great first events for newer members. Event
commanders are being sought for Port Macquarie and the Illawarra, with
mentoring available if required.

This year's Trek for Timor will be around Wentworth Falls in the World
Heritage Listed Blue Mountains, on Saturday the 20th of September,
with 13km, 25km and 45km options. As with the previous Blue Mountains
Trek, this year's is raising funds for several school, vocational and
higher education projects. They are currently accepting team
registrations and sponsorship at: www.trekfortimorbm.org.au

The Northern Rivers region will be conducting two training sessions,
the first being on EMR Assessment for portable operations on Sunday
the 10th of August, and a second event on Sunday the 12th of October.
The region also has the Paddle for Life pencilled to run from Saturday
13th to Monday 15 September.

Amateurs also holding a marine radio qualification are being sought
for the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic on Saturday 25th October.
