The ARRL website at www.arrl.org contains a number of articles on Amateur and other communications following Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). One story indicates "... a network of ham radio emergency communicators continues to handle a large volume of vital message traffic. Ramon Anquilan, DU1UGZ, of the Philippine Amateur Radio Association (PARA), said its Ham Emergency Radio Operations (HERO) network is active in the disaster areas and sending messages on HF and VHF — 40 meters and 2 meters".

While WICEN NSW typically does not have events scheduled over the summer months, it is during this period which they often activated, so members need to remain prepared for such events.

WICEN Victoria will be providing communications for the 2013 Murray Marathon, run by the YMCA. Operators will arrive at Cobram on 26 December, for a general briefing late that afternoon. The event Start is the next morning at Yarrawonga, a little downstream from Albury-Wodonga. After 5 days of paddling, the event concludes at Swan Hill on the 31st. Details can be found using the Events drop-down menu in WICEN Victoria's site at: www.vic.wicen.org.au/

WICEN ACT, part of the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club has one event left this year, a car rally planned for December. Their website at www.crarc.ampr.org includes details of both WICEN and general events.

Coming WICEN events include:

BMSC's Rallye de Femme to be conducted within the ACT, pencilled for Saturday 8th December
