This weekend is the Great North Walk 100s is a long distance race, named for the 100 km and 100 mile (160 km) options, from Teralba to Patonga Wharf. It will be a good event for new operators.

The VH-MDX SAREX will be held next weekend, from 15th to 17th September. This is a search and rescue exercise built around the search for a light aircraft missing since 1981, in the rugged Barrington Tops, north of Newcastle. Some checkpoints can be accessed by a regular car, others require a four wheel drive.

Trek for Timor Kangaroo Valley is on 7th and 8th October. This event raises funds for accommodation for students studying in Dili, and for scholarships for school students. See: http://www.kvrp.net.au/

The Mid North Coast Region will be supporting the AMSAG Johns River Rally, between Johns River and Heron Creek, on Saturday, 28th October.

The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic will be held overnight on 28th and 29th October. WICEN has responsibility for checkpoint communications over a large portion of the course, so requires a good turnout of operators.

The Volunteer Memorial Day is Sunday, October 8th.

WICEN Northern Rivers has a weekly net on Tuesdays at 8:00pm, on the Lismore repeater VK2RSC on 146.8 MHz, requiring a 123 Hz tone. Listen for VK2WIR.

The WICEN Mid North Coast Region monthly meeting is held on the first Saturday of the month, at SES HQ, Central Road, Port Macquarie, beginning at 15:30. The region is also experimenting with an HF net on Thursday evenings at 19:00. With 80 metres unsuccessful, the new frequency is 28.320 MHz.

WICEN ACT is part of the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club, and supports events in the ACT and the surrounding "Capital Country". This weekend is the ACTERA Brookvale Horse Enduro on the north-west border of the Territory. The BMSC "Rallye des Femme" is Saturday, October 14th. Fitz's Challenge is a road cycling event on Sunday October 29th. November 4th and 5th sees the group double up, with LCCC Monaro Stages event around Cooma on the Saturday, and the NSW Carriage Driving Championships at Witwood on the Sunday. WICEN Victoria holds a net every Tuesday at 20:30 on or near 3.6 MHz. The Stockman's Rally on September 17th is a non-competitive motorcycle event in Big River State Forest. December 1st to 3rd is the Alpine rally in the east of the state. Their website is: http://vic.wicen.org.au
