WICEN NSW, the state’s emergency communications volunteer group, a support squad of the VRA Rescue NSW, will dispatch radio operators to set up field radio stations at various locations throughout the Central Coast, Sydney, and Illawarra regions.
Amateur radio operators in NSW, and beyond, are invited to get on the air and make radio contact with one of the WICEN stations during the exercise which will run from 0900-1300hrs Sunday 20th February. The purpose of the exercise is to practise setting up ad hoc radio communication networks to support local communities during bushfires and other emergency situations when mobile phone networks and other communications have failed.
The weekend’s exercise will provide an opportunity to practise establishing longer range communications across the three regions. It will assume that all phone and internet communications have been lost and will establish a communications backbone that could be used for regional co-ordination during a wide-area emergency event.
Frequencies to be used;
80m - 3620 kHz LSB Voice (+/- QRM)
40m - 7160 kHz LSB Voice (+/- QRM)
